About Sunil Angris
A life shaped by stories and place
Background
The son of first-generation Hindu immigrants, Sunil grew up in the Black Country and studied medicine at Nottingham. His years as a GP in Derbyshire deepened his understanding of resilience, relationships and the complexity of family life.
Writing
Alongside medicine, Sunil wrote regularly for the medical press and served for ten years as a motoring correspondent. He later returned to poems, short stories and fiction through the Stromness Writers’ Group.
Orkney
After more than twenty years of visits, Sunil made Orkney his permanent home in 2019. The islands’ landscape, history and communities continue to inspire his fiction.
Life beyond writing
When he is not writing, Sunil enjoys exploring Orkney’s history and coastline, as well as music and keeping fit—interests that continue to colour his storytelling.
